The zoo accepts community service hours from students for two of our annual events:
1. Conference House Beach Clean up in September (exact date still to be chosen), 2008
Your home is an important place to both you and the native animals that live here both on
land and in the sea. Join the Staten Island Zoo when we clean up a stretch of beach in
front of the Conference House in Tottenville.
We will be meeting on the Conference House lawn by the big tree near the Pavilion at 2pm.
The clean up usually lasts about 2 hrs. Please call the zoo, (718) 442-3174 X33, to
register so we can get in touch with you in case we need to use a rain date or cancel the
event.
All are welcome...so tell your class or your troop, your friends and family to lend a hand.
The more hands we have, the greater stretch of beach we can clean.
2. Adopt-A-Soldier Day at the Staten Island Zoo.
Join the zoo in recognizing "Armed Forces Day" on Sat., May 17, 2008 by helping collect, box
and mail essentials and non-essentials to our soldiers in Iraq.
You can help in one of three ways:
Before the event: Collect items and boxes to be sent to the soldiers from family and
friends or purchase.
On the day of the event: Help collect, sort and box items. Help families and children who
come that day to write letters and make crafts. Prepare boxes for mailing.
After the day of the event: Take boxes to post office to be mailed.
